  • The Greatest verse in the Holy Quran

    Allaahu laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoom
Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence.

laa ta’khuthuhu sinatun wa laa nawm
Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep

lahu maa fis-samaawaati wa maa fil-‘ardh
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.

    man thal-lathee yashfa’u ‘indahu ‘illaa bi’ithnih
Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?

He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them

wa laa yuheetoona bishay’im-min ‘ilmihi ‘illaa bimaa shaa’a
and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills.

    wasi’a kursiyyuhus-samaawaati wal’ardh, wa laa ya’ooduhu hifdhuhumaa,
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not.

    wa Huwal- ‘Aliyyul- ‘Adheem.
And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

    Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 255

Whoever says this when he rises in the morning will be protected from jinns until he retires in the evening, and whoever says it when retiring in the evening will be protected from them until he rises in the morning.

    The traveler’s invocation at dawn

Read this dua at dawn whenever you are traveling.

Transliteration :Sami’a saami’un bihamdillaahi wa husni balaa’ihi ‘alaynaa. Rabbanaa saahibnaa, wa ‘afdhil ‘alaynaa ‘aa’ithan billaahi minan-naar.

Translation :He Who listens has heard that we praise Allah for the good things He gives us. Our Lord, be with us and bestow Your favor upon us. I seek the protection of Allah from the Fire.

Muslim 4/2086, the meaning of sami’a saami’un (who listens has heard) is that ‘a witness has witnessed our praise of Allah due to His blessings and favor upon us.’ It could also be read samma’a saami’un, in which case it means ‘one who has heard this statement of mine will convey it to another and he will say it as well.’ This is due to the attention given to the Thikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplications made during the early morning hours. The meaning of his saying ‘Our Lord, be with us and bestow Your favor upon us’ is: ‘Our Lord, protect us and guard us. Bless us with Your numerous bounties, and avert from us every evil.’ See An-Nawawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim 17/39.

    Method of Supplicating
One should supplicate after doing Wudhu.
    Supplicate facing the Qibla.
One should supplicate with both hands raised.
Before Dua, one must recite the praise and glorification of Almighty Allah.
Recite Durood-e-pak before and after reciting supplication. (It is given at the end of this section).
Never supplicate for an unlawful thing or cutting off of relations.
    Supplicate with presence of mind.
One must have a good notion about Almighty Allah that He is kind, and He would not return the supplicant empty handed.
One should be absolutely attentive to Almighty Allah.
One should supplicate fervently.  One should mention the needs.  One must include others also in one’s supplications.
One must express his humility and weakness before Almighty Allah.
Give Sadaqah (charity) before supplicating, if possible
Supplicate before the arrival of calamity. Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) says: You should recognize Almighty Allah during prosperity and He will come to your help when you are in trouble.
You should request brothers in faith to pray for you as the Almighty accepts the supplication of one believer for another.
Continue to supplicate regularly whether your supplication is answered or not; perhaps there is some divine exigency in the delay and dua is loved by Almighty Allah, thus one should never give up the most liked act.

Say “Ameen” at the end of making dua.

After the supplication, pass both hands over the face.

Along with supplication, one must abandon all the unlawful acts and disobedience of Allah as bad intentions, internal evil, hypocrisy, delay in ritual prayer and disobedience of parents hinder acceptance of supplications.

Before you go to bed perform ablutions as you would for prayer, then lie down on your right side and say this dua” The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Whoever says this and dies in his sleep, has died in a state of the natural monotheism (Fitrah).” Al-Bukhari, cf. Al-Asqalani, Fathul-Bari 11/113, Muslim 4/2081.

O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affairs to You, turn my face to You, and lay myself down depending upon You, hoping in You and fearing You. There is no refuge, and no escape, except to You. I believe in Your Book (the Qur’an) that You revealed, and the Prophet whom You sent.
